Photodegradation of Pharmaceutical Pollutants: New Photocatalytic Systems Based on 3D Printed Scaffold-Supported Ag/TiO2 Nanocomposite

Due to the release of active pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater and their persistence environment, dangerous consequences can develop aquatic terrestrial organisms. Chitosan/Ag/TiO2 3D printed scaffolds, at different Ag nanoparticle concentrations (10, 100, 1000 ppm) are investigated here as promising materials for photocatalytic degradation under UV–Vis irradiation wastewater. As target drugs, amoxicillin, paracetamol 1:1 mix were selected. nanoparticles increase efficiency system based on titanium dioxide embedded chitosan scaffold: presence Chitosan/Ag100/TiO2, selected pharmaceuticals (PhCs), monitored by spectroscopy, completely removed about 2 h. The photodegradation products PhCs identified Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectroscopy assessed toxicological impact six bacterial strains: no antibacterial activity was found towards tested strains. This new Ag/TiO2 supported scaffolds may represent an effective strategy reduce pollution emerging contaminants.
